Orvis Pro LT Wading Pants – Product Review

Gaining popularity and interest in the fly industry is the Wading Pant and it makes perfect sense. Most discussions revolve around Aussie Summers and the unbearable heat of walking miles in full sized chest waders or ‘I barely get my knees deep’ and of late, the need for quality and comfortable options for the beach goers who are targeting Luderick and Mulloway.

I had persevered with my previous wader pants for far too long. Whilst they did the job for a bit, leaks appeared, Velcro tabs fluffed out and in good timing of sorts, a few options appeared on the market in close proximately to one another.

Fortunately, I do get to try everything we carry in the range on, and sound advice for anybody within reach of a fly shop should do the same when it comes to waders, boots and generally, everything that is size specific. Best fit will always be more comfortable and longer wearing.

The fit was comfortable from the first try on. A few features contribute to this, easy clip buttons on the front and an elasticized waist band were the standouts for me. A sturdy, waterproof zip and the wading boot attachment loop on the lower leg without any metal parts were bonuses. These would be worn in both fresh and salt. From all of the light salt angling we do, regular zips or those with a metal runner will corrode out. Even with post session hosing down, I find most zips perish.

There are a couple of loops on the upper leg for attaching a Zinger and perhaps Nippers, thou i have not used that feature as yet.

Padded knees are a great asset! My knees are getting worn and old, and I like that additional bit of comfort and protection from hard surfaces when kneeling to handle fish for photography and release.

To date, I have found the Orvis Pro Wading pants to be an asset for wading in the shallow edges of the local estuary targeting EP and Tailor, Trouting in the Stillwaters, along with walking the beaches in search of the next shallow reef to target tailing Luderick.
