CDC, a French term meaning “duck’s rear,” refers to the oily feathers found around a duck’s preen gland. These feathers are naturally buoyant, trapping air incredibly well, with ultra-soft fibers that move naturally in the water, making them look lifelike to fish. Commonly used in fly tying, CDC is ideal for dry flies like emergers and duns, as well as for nymphs to create a buggy, alive appearance, and as wing or collar material.
