GTS Fly Fishing Reels
Crafted in Miami, Florida, Nautilus’ new GTS fly reel is a standout option for any angler looking for versatility across a range of water types. While Nautilus is well-known for making bulletproof saltwater reels, their GTS offers the same performance with the ability to tackle any freshwater species ranging from a 40-pound carp to a freshly run salmon. Weighing in at just 5.3 ounces, the GTS is one of the lightest 7/8-weight reels on the market, ideal for long days spent pursuing strong species. A fully sealed drag system is saltwater-ready and delivers an impressive 10+ pounds of pressure, capable of handling everything from bonefish to jack crevalle. Pairing a large arbor with a unique spool design makes for efficient line pickup, while distinct drag clicks provide satisfying audible feedback during hot runs.
Available in a 5-6 and a 7-8 weight option, the GTS is a fly reel that’s ready to stand up to years of tough use just about everywhere you bring it.
Design – Lightweight Design w/ Large Arbor – Nautilus designs their GTS Reel to be ultra-lightweight without sacrificing line retrieve. This is achieved through the reel’s porting and narrow spool design.
Finish – Brushed Anodizing – A choice that increases durability while adding a sharp look to the reel, the GTS has a brushed anodized finish. Nautilus offers this reel in a brushed silver or black option, so whether you want something more subtle or a bit flashier, they have you covered.
Materials –High-Quality Machined Aluminum – Nautilus builds their GTS Reels from high-quality aluminum. This choice of materials and the reel’s porting make it one of the lightest reels available. Not only does this shave down the weight, but it also prevents any rust or corrosion no matter how many long days you’re spending in the salt.
Drag – Sealed Disc Drag – Nautilus is well-known for having strong, reliable drags on their reels, and the GTS is no exception. Featuring a sealed construction with a disc system, the GTS has excellent stopping power, and with three turns of the drag knob, you’re looking at roughly 10 pounds of drag, which is more than enough for any fish you’ll put on this reel.
Fully sealed, the GTS requires minimal maintenance even after the longest shifts in the salt.
Arbor Size – Large Arbor – Nautilus builds the GTS with a large arbor construction. Not only does this make for quick line pickup, but it holds enough backing for anything you’d chase with this reel. The 5-6 version stores 150 yards of 20lb backing and the 7-8 model can hold 180 yards of 20lb backing. From a bonefish’s initial takeoff on the flats of Andros to a screaming run from a bonito that just made it into Long Island Sound, you can count on this reel for a range of species.
